Figure 7-14 from Molecular Biology of the Cell 4th. edition, depicts some helix-turn-helix DNA-binding proteins. All of the proteins bind DNA as dimers and the two recognition helix copies shown as a red cylinder are separated by each other by a turn of the helix with a 3.4 nm distance. The other helix of the motif - helix-turn-helix - is colored blue. The bacteriophage lambda gene expression is controlled by the lambda repressor and Cro proteins while the expression sets of E. coli genes are controlled by the tryptophan repressor and the catabolite protein(CAP).
