The Centro Virtual Cervantes open textbook is being utilized in a Spanish linguistics course for graduate students by Carmen Jany, Ph.D. at CSUSB. The Centro Virtual Cervantes is an online platform that has been maintained by the Cervantes Institute in Spain for the past 20 years. It is dedicated to posting materials on the Spanish language and Hispanic Cultures proving valuable sources for Spanish professors and students. The site includes articles from 5 categories: Teaching, Literature, Language, Arts, Sciences. For this course, readings from the Teaching part were selected. The site is fully in Spanish and all published articles are by well respected scholars in the field. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was the very high cost of a widely used textbook. Most students access the open textbook online for reading; some printed the articles page by page.

This open textbook is being utilized in a Humanities course for undergraduate students by J. David Jerez-Gómez, Ph.D., at California State University, San Bernardino. The open textbook provides students an invitation to explore and analyze, through literature, music and art, the interactions and exchanges between peoples of "the lands of the Middle Sea" -- North Africa, West Asia, the Middle East, and Southern Europe with the study of texts of different genres and traditions that embody Mediterranean syncretism, forming a common cultural ground. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was to provide access to a selection of canonical and marginal texts using digital instructional materials that are free online at no cost to students, and that are accessible through MERLOT, and other online sources. Most students access the open sources and textbook in online format.

This open textbook is being utilized in a statistics course for undergraduate students by Min-Lin Lo at California State University San Bernardo. The open textbook is meant to be a textbook for a standard one-semester introductory statistics course for general education students. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was to save students money. Most students access the open textbook in from the course LMS.

This open textbook is being utilized in an economics course for undergraduate students by Daniel MacDonald, Ph.D. at CSU San Bernardino. Each chapter of the open textbook begins with an issue that is then addressed at the end of the chapter using the tools acquired in that chapter. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was to show how a high-quality educational experience (drawing on real-world applications and critical thinking skills) can be obtained using open educational materials. Most student access the open textbook in PDF format.

This open textbook is being utilized in a chemistry course for undergraduate students by Larry Mink, Ph.D., at California State University, San Bernardino. The open source textbook Openstax College Chemistry is at the appropriate level for a science major course in general chemistry. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was because the online version is free for students. Most students access the open textbook directly online.

These open resources are being utilized in a Wildlife Crime course for undergraduate students by Nerea Marteache, Ph.D. at California State University San Bernardino. The open educational resources include journal articles that are available and free through the University’s library and media resources that can be easily updated. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was to save students money and also being able to customize course contents. Most students access the open resources from our LMS.

The open textbook provides a communicative approach for teaching languages, with an emphasis on listening and building vocabulary skills, as well as reading, writing and speaking. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was to save students money. Most students access the open textbook online, and some of them print out the information.
