In this session, participants will learn how to structure a logical, cohesive course around measurable student learning outcomes. Veteran instructor Linda Nilson will show you how to formulate clear, assessable learning outcomes; how to organize them chronologically into ultimate, mediating, and foundational categories; and how to create an outcomes map that will serve as the working skeleton for your course. You'll study and utilize three frameworks to organize your outcomes in a pedagogically logical way, and also create and populate a working outcomes map encompassing strategies and assessment. The session will inform you about the teaching methods and moves that, according to research, are among the most effective tools for preparing your students to achieve your outcomes and about the best strategies for measuring how well they have achieved the desired outcomes.
