Currently I am a teacher at a school that employs the block schedule and I find it very beneficial. It allows me the opportunity to engage in many different learning activities throughout the lesson so that the material doesn't become static. Students, overall, tend to be in favor of the block because it allows them to apply the information they have gained in the presence of the teacher as opposed to for homework. As an aspiring administrator I would definitely promote the block if I was in a school with a traditional schedule. The key would be to get all the stakeholders (faculty, students, parents, etc.) to see the merits of the block. I would have to make sure I was well prepared to speak to the virtues of the block, with support, to gain the understanding of each of the stakeholders.
