The purpose of this two-part assignment is to challenge nurse leaders who are obtaining their Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with self-reflection, leadership awareness, and organizational thinking, while pushing their creative and analytical mind. Part 1: DNP students were required to read and participate in a Graduate Level book club after reading John Kotter's book, "That's Not How We Do It Here" (2017). Kotter's books are for leaders and are not specific to the nursing profession but are very relevant for the healthcare field. This book club was held in a synchronous, online format. The students had approximately 7 weeks to complete the short fable and consider discussion questions on the story. Part 2: The students needed to select one of the American Nurses Association (ANA) Leadership Competency Model domains, which include leading self, leading others, and leading the organization. Then they were asked to select a specific competency that they found significantly challenging in their own personal development.
