There are many quantum effects in life that are newly being discovered in a field called quantum biology. Wave-particle duality means that small particles such as electrons, protons(in this context usually H⁺ ions), and photons. Occasionally, more complex organic compounds can even behave like waves. The wave-like properties enable quantum tunneling where they can pass through an energy barrier. It is possible that quantum entanglement could be responsible for some properties of nervous system prepare, however, they currently do not have any evidence to support that. It is possible that the quantum superposition(being in multiple states at once) could effect a neuron making it both firing and not firing at once leading to better transfer of information, and that entanglement between photons throughout the body can have effects on enhancing coordination throughout living organisms. The biophotons(photons in life) will have the same interactions across different cells. Quantum effects such as tunneling are also part of photosynthesis. A theory on the reason for mutations says that the DNA hydrogen bonds required to be broken for replication are weaker when in a superposition, and the superposition also makes mutations more likely. The quantum effects also may be responsible for tissue and cell repair. Ionizing radiation induces quantum tunneling in cells which can have harmful effects such as making free radicals(dangerous molecules with unpaired electrons).
