This assignment design guide demonstrates how intellectual virtues can be applied to the learning design of course assignments. Course assignments provide an opportunity for students to practice and demonstrate intellectual virtues in a disciplinary context. Assignment design for intellectual virtues comprises three elements:

1. Identification of target intellectual virtue(s)
2. Assignment prompts and requirements incorporating relevant intellectual virtues
3. Assessment criteria evaluating demonstration of intellectual virtues in assignmentdeliverables.

Instructors or their collaborating librarians or instructional designers can use this assignment design guide to apply intellectual virtues to assignments.
