This resource can be used as a template for a research essay in Chicano and Latin American Studies courses. It gives student the soption to choose from 4 essay prompts with guiding questions. The rubric shows the students how they will graded based on the criteria, which shows transparency in grading. Finally, the outline helps the stsudent begin their reserach as well as helps them format their essay. I use the "chunking" method to write the essay where students write out a section each week for the first eight weeks and the entire essay is due on week nine. The outline helps students write each section and format it appropriately in their paper. Also, I give weekly feedback so that they can edit as they write.
