Spotify as an Organizing System is a presentation designed to introduce users to the audio platform interface, its user functions, and algorithms influencing presented content. Learning objectives include (1) identifying the public and private functions of Spotify such as building a library and sharing content with others, (2) differentiating two basic types of algorithms - collaborative-based & content-based - affecting the user's music experience, and (3) navigating through the catalog by searching for content and adding content to the user's library.

The presentation begins with a visual walk-through of the desktop interface Homepage and an invitation for the audience to collaborate on a playlist around a shared experience, such as the class for which this presentation was created. Step-by-step instructions with visual components include using the search tool, building a library, and sharing a created playlist with others. This presentation takes a brief look at the workings behind content-based and collaborative-based filtering that affect Spotify-generated content such as Daily Mixes, Blends playlists, and the yearly Spotify Wrapped, all of which are also investigated in function. Finally, the presentation ends with a look at the playlist to which the audience contributed.
