Summary of context clues that authors leave when they provide a definition in a text. This is in the form of a hierarchy in order to visually organize the information and to model use of visual study tools (graphic organizers) for students. The hierarchy format organizes information from top down working from general to specific. Students use this summary to practice locating the definition of an unknown word by tracking the context clue. At the first level students practice finding the definitions of nonsense words which have been substituted for the unknown word, so that they focus on locating the definition without being distracted by the word itself.
