Intelligent Polymer Materials and Technology
This video was recorded at PRO(MO)GRAM - predstavitveni filmi raziskovalnih programov / promotional videos of research programs. In the promotional video work of the research group of the Center for Experimental Mechanics which works in the frame of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ljubljana is presented. Our research is focused primarily on the time-dependent behavior of bio- and synthetic-polymer materials and their composites exposed to extreme thermo-mechanical loads. Time-dependent materials are complex dissipative systems. Consequently, the research interest of the group is focused on mechanics of dissipative systems in general. Dissipative systems are complex systems where multiple processes are running and interacting among each other simultaneously. Properties of dissipative systems change with time and are strongly dependent on the rate of external loading and/or space-time scale of interaction between two or more interacting processes. In the promotional video three projects are presented, which are carried out in cooperation with the leading international corporations and represent a technological breakthrough in its segment: Osseointegrative dental and orthopedic implants in collaboration with FRESENIUS Corporation. Development of worldwide first bio-compatible osseointegrative implants Transparent and light bullet-proof glass-polymer composites in collaboration with SCHOTT corporation. Development of new generation transparent and light bullet-proof glass-polymer composites Development of Nano-PIM technology in collaboration with BASF corporation. Development of new materials for achieving non-conventional effects which can reduce viscosity of feedstock material and improve the quality of the final part.
