Modeling the evolution of flower colour in snapdragons
This video was recorded at Kolokviji na Institutu "Jožef Stefan". Species are often subdivided into distinct populations, which are separated by narrow zones of hybridisation. These can be modelled using reaction-diffusion equations, yielding estimates of quantities such as the strength of selection and the rate of diffusion of genes. I will illustrate the population genetics of hybrid zones using our current study system, which involves populations of Antirrhinum (snapdragons) in the Pyrenees which differ in flower colour.
