Cross Border Co‐operation and Potentials of South Eastern Europe
This video was recorded at 11th Forum on Europe: Foresight Conference "The Future of Information Society and Challenges for Good Governance" and Preparatory Workshop "Western Balkan Futures: Foresight 2020 Project", Bled 2010. Business Advisory Council for SEE is a private sector network aiming at contributing to political and social stability, economic development and welfare in SEE. Thus, the BAC for SEE is an ardent supporter of the European vision of the region and is working towards the establishment of a prosperous political, social and economic environment in Southeast Europe. BAC contributions and initiatives are focused on the following priorities: - development of basic infrastructure, through the identification and prioritization of marketable and economically profitable projects - public private partnerships, with an emphasis on the introduction and application of European and international best practices - investment facilitation, according to the work of the OECD Investment Compact and Investment Committee, aiming at improved marketing of investment opportunities, development of local capacities, adoption and implementation of investment related legislation and regulations in line with the European acquis, equal treatment of foreign and domestic investors, resolution of land and ownership ambiguities, and radical reform of the judiciary and court systems - regional trade and transport facilitation, though elimination of non-tariff barriers to trade (NTBs), simplification of border crossing procedures, fighting corrupt practices at borders and promotion of safe border management, under the CEFTA agreement and with a view to integration with EU markets - facilitation of entrepreneurship, SME development and employment, through increased availability of financing on the micro-level, and promotion of innovation and sustainable competition in the local and regional markets - capacity building and education, focusing on the introduction of the project management concept in public administration, improved vocational training, and the development of language and e-skills.
