When doing the Grade 8 Standard 4 (Earth in the Solar System) teaching, have the students look up the number of sunspots that occurred on their birthday. Graph the sunspots, in chronological order, with the students at their table (collaborative work) and then contribute their information to the class graph, by period, so analysis can happen and conclusions drawn over the course of the entire group. Extensions could be to do a graph over the five years of data available on the above listed site.
