The examination of pathological specimens is essential to a health professional’s learning of disease processes. This project aims to develop a self-directed interactive learning tool for teaching pathology. Four pathology specimens representing common conditions were initially selected to create an accessible and effective tool to help students link the theoretical basis of pathology, pathophysiology and related courses with their future profession. More specimens have been added since and will continue to be added to the collection as they are developed. The use of high quality images and interactive access to labelling, definitions, major pathological concepts and actual case studies are key features of the tool. The pilot program has reported high student satisfaction of this ‘Online Pathology’ resource and potential exists for its expansion to external students and also across a wide range of health science programs within UniSA.
