READI is a tool for identifying students who might be at risk of not doing well in an online course. While many college websites provide a ten item survey of "Is Distance Learning For You," READI goes much deeper and is actually a skills test to quantify the student's level of readiness for studying online. READI measures variables in the areas of technical competency, learning styles, on-screen reading speed & comprehension, individual attributes, and typing speed and accuracy. In addition to the student receiving immediate graphical and textual feedback with an interpretation of their scores, the school can log in administratively and view the student's READI scores. Using integrated communication tools, the school can then easily email the student about sources for remediation and support in the areas in which they might be weak. When used this way, READI is a strong retention tool. Schools can pilot READI for one academic term at no cost and with no obligation. READI is embedded into a custom user interface which has the look and feel of your school's website. As examples see http://scu.readi.info or http://capella.readi.info. The data can be exported into your student information system.
