A 1957 graduate of Bethune Cookman College with a degree in Commerce, Bryant also served as a U.S. Army paratrooper during the Korean War. Born and raised in Ocala, Florida, he moved to Quincy, Florida after marrying Ellen Sanders, also a BCC graduate. After desegregation in the early 1970s, he became the principal of Carter-Parramore which converted to a middle school, and eventually became the first African American school superintendent in Florida (obituary).
