Defined as the ability to face adverse situations, remain focused, and continue to be optimistic for the future, resilience is a vital characteristic for nurses in today's complex healthcare system.¹ The competing priorities and challenges with which nurses are confronted may make it difficult to develop resilience characteristics.² Therefore, it's important for nurse leaders to educate nurses about self-care and techniques to build resilience.

An online literature review, primarily using PubMed, was conducted to gather evidence-based articles that address strategies to promote nurse resilience. The following search terms were used: nurse, nursing, nurse leaders, resilience, resiliency, and their combinations. The literature review was restricted to articles published between 2015 and 2017 to ensure that the recommendations were up-to-date and relevant to current healthcare needs.
