The California State University and MERLOT have partnered to showcase how and why faculty have adopted Open Educational Resources (OER) to facilitate equitable access to their students’ course materials. This Faculty Showcases represent Open Educational Practices where faculty are sharing their "know-how" for adopting OER in their courses.  This open textbook is being utilized in a College Algebra and Trigonometry course for undergraduate students by Olga Gutkina, M.A., at Cal Maritime Academy. The open textbook has a good approach of explaining algebra topics and introducing students to trigonometric functions. The main motivation to adopt an open textbook was the desire to replace the overpriced textbook previously used in this course with an inexpensive alternative. Students are able to download the open textbook on the OpenStax website for use on their computers.
