Core strategy: Two 1-point autograded Canvas quizzes per lecture – one quiz at the start of class and one at the end of class. The 2 quiz format keeps attendance, since the autograded scores immediately integrate into Canvas Gradebook. Absences and late joiners are easily seen.

The 2-quizzes-per-class-session format also keeps students engaged in the lectures. The 1st quiz, which covers the previous class session, gets them to review their notes before class; the 2nd quiz, covering the previous 45 minutes, keeps them engaged in class.

Canvas New Quiz Fill-In-the-Blank (FITB) questions are used nearly exclusively: FITBs are arguably pedagogically superior to True/False and the average Multiple Choice question (which also take more effort to create).

However, there are many tips and tricks to using Canvas New Quiz. I go over these.

Also outlined is how I have adapted Zoom to quickly jump between my PowerPoints and the all-important 1-3 minute YouTube videos during lecture, while keeping the Chat and Participants windows always visible (important).
