Directory of Open Access Journal is a database that offers open access journals and articles. Through this resource we are able to access content without a subscription or barrier. The information is presented as a normal database. It has a search and advanced search function that allows to quickly find a specific article or journal. It also has a "browse subject" tab that allows the user to see the various amount of topics that the database covers. Due to the large quantity of content and multiple languages that the articles and journals come in, we have to be able to narrow down the type of content we are looking for to reliably find information that would be of use. On the side bar we have many tabs that we can use that will enable us to slim down our results. These options consist of choosing between a journal and a article, subject, country of publisher (which is helpful in narrowing down your preffered language) and many more helpful tabs. We also used this opportunity to compare DOAJ with Gale Academic Onefile to compare the different ways these databases operate. With this comparison we are able to see what DOAJ does really well and also what area it could do better in.
An activity that could be used to interact with learners is by asking questions on search methods used in DOAJ. Also giving the learners a a specific topic to research and to have them provide sources on what they found and how they located it. With this activity the learner will be able to freely use DOAJ for a goal that can familiarize them with the database.
