Technical Requirements:: Ravelry is a free social networking site for fiber enthusiasts, especially knitters and crocheters, to organize their own projects and ideas and share with others. Its functionality is exceptional since the web developers are also knitters. Within Ravelry, users can connect with one another, upload info about their projects, search for patterns and yarn, find tutorials, and discuss their work in forums. This lesson will provide an overview of the Ravelry site and then focus on how to use the Advanced Pattern Search. In order to use this lesson plan successfully, the facilitator will need to create a free account at ravelry.com. The site is password protected otherwise. The facilitator will share their screen to demonstrate the various features of Ravelry, then actually use the advanced search feature: From the top ribbon, choose "Patterns," then click "Pattern Browser & Advanced Search" under the pattern search bar. From the advanced search sidebar, users can choose from many limiters. Some degree of knitting knowledge may be required to interpret the terminology. The facilitator can do a live search with class participation, or make choices in advance. When we presented this lesson, we used a live poll to make choices. Ultimately, using the various limiters, a search of the 900,000 patterns available can be narrowed down to just a few dozen.
