This is a podcast on the pediatric primary care topic of concussion created for the purpose of education of pediatric residents. Podcasting has become a desirable alternative mode of education for learners. A prior podcast for pediatric residents at University of Colorado showed the that residents enjoyed and learned from the podcast produced and were more confident in identifying and managing patients with similar presentations. They also expressed the desire for additional topics to be covered. A podcast about concussions was produced comparing and contrasting the primary care perspective and an emergency perspective. The podcast was developed to support formulating competency in the American Board of Pediatric’s Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) #4 “Manage patients with acute, common diagnoses in an ambulatory, emergency or inpatient setting”. The recording is a conversation between a primary care physician at a private practice in the community and a pediatric emergency care physician, moderated by an academic general pediatrician. An outline ensured that all key points and learning objectives were covered. The podcast was then distributed to residents and students at the University of Colorado. A survey was then distributed with 3 questions based on the Kirkpatrick four levels of evaluating training programs. 100% of learners found that the podcast was enjoyable to listen to (Kirkpatrick Level 1)and 97% stated they learned from the podcast (Kirkpatrick level 2). The majority of learners gave feedback that they planned to use the information in the future in care for their patients (Kirkpatrick level 3). Overall the podcast proved to be an effective education tool and was well received by learners.
