This series of four (4) tutorials and quizzes discuss the parts of a scientific article. This is Part 2.
Part 1 discusses the parts of a scientific article and provides detail on the first half of a paper (through Methods)
Part 2 discusses the second half of a scientific article (from Results to the end) and explains where such an article fits into the academic discourse
Part 3 is the first part of a self-paced quiz asking students to identify if excerpted sentences are from the introduction, method, result, or discussion/conclusion section of a scientific article
Part 4 is the second part of a self-paced quiz asking students to identify if excerpted sentences are from the introduction, method, result, or discussion/conclusion section of a scientific article
Aline Soules (Faculty)
This tutorial has been used in F2F and online courses. Students in scientific courses are often unaware of the structure of a scientific article and also unable to distinguish what goes into the various parts and how important it is to place facts in methods and results and save opinion for the discussion/conclusion section. This tutorial series (4 parts) addresses both issues, providing both tutorial material (2 parts) and self-administered quizzes (2 parts). All four parts are available in MERLOT: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.
