The Internet layer
This presentation quickly goes over what the internet layer is. The internet layer protocol is internet protocol (IP). The IP layer forwards packets form router to router until they reach their destination. The router is also defined in this presentation as a programmed computer that is programmed to send packets into the Internet and to receive incoming packets when they arrive. A firewall is another special purpose computer that is programmed to look out for viruses and other threats. We see how the firewall and router work in the CSUDH network which connects to the Internet. We see how the data link layer helps route packets within the LAN. This presentation also covers the notion of a "dumb network" stating that the Internet was designed to be a dumb network that connects smart machines at its edges.
