Sociology of Care

Sociology of Care

Course Highlights "Care" is a broad concept that includes nursing care, child care, and assistance, and it refers to activities to assist individuals who cannot be self-reliant. However, for many years, care has been considered unseen labor within the private confines of families. As Japan's population ages and fewer babies are born, care is becoming a focus of attention. With this view in mind, such pressing, present-day questions discussed in the course will include: Is care labor? What sort of labor is care? Who is to undertake care, and why? What are the rights of the people being cared for? The Long-term Care Insurance System and the Assistance Benefit System will also be discussed.
