According to Student PIRGS, "Book of Proof is an introduction to the language and methods of mathematical proofs. The text is meant to bridge the computational courses that students typically encounter in their first years of college (such as calculus or differential equations) to more theoretical, proof-based courses such as topology, analysis and abstract algebra. Topics include sets, logic, counting, methods of conditional and non-conditional proof, disproof, induction, relations, functions and infinite cardinality.

Although this book may be more meaningful to the student who has had some calculus, there is no prerequisite other than a measure of mathematical maturity. The text is an expansion and refinement of the author's lecture notes developed over ten years of teaching proof courses at Virginia Commonwealth University. The text is catered to the program at VCU to an extent, but the author kept the larger audience of undergraduate mathematics students in mind.
