We are developing an inquiry-based physics course for prospective elementary and middle school teachers that integrates physics and literacy learning.  By integrating physics and literacy learning, we mean learning to speak clearly, listen closely, write coherently, read with comprehension, and make and critique media resources such as the Internet.  Features of the course include documenting initial and current thinking with diagnostic questions, teaching writing and reading strategies explicitly,  involving friends and family members in assignments, including readings written by teachers with examples of integrating science and literacy learning, and constructing documentary websites in class.
