John Coltrane changes

John Coltrane Changes are progressions of 3 chords a Major third apart. The chords are connected by means of Dominant Seventh chords. Supposedly, one of the chords has the Tonic function, another the Dominant and the other the Subdominant. But, due to the perfect symmetry among them, the Tonic reference is lost. Thus, the 3 chords become completely equivalent. Representing these chord progressions on the Harmonic Wheel is very simple: they always follow a spiral line.
