Rhoades Opera house fire -Boyertown PA

One of the largest loss of life fires ever to occur in the U.S. happened in 1908 at the Rhodes Opera House in Boyertown, PA (immediately next to Pennsburg). 170 people lost their lives in this fire and it was responsible for many of the modern fire and building codes that are used today. Another thing that will strike you is how similar the cause of this fire was to the RI nightclub fire a few years ago. To recognize the 100th anniversary of this fire, the Allentown TV station produce a very good documentary about it
