TEACHING THE “P-V-M-G-O” CONCEPT THROUGH MUSIC

TEACHING THE “P-V-M-G-O” CONCEPT THROUGH MUSIC

Universal Design encourages the adoption of multiple approaches to accommodate the needs of all learners. The use of music as a learning aid has a long history, and recent developments suggest that music may be particularly effective with people who display brain function-related challenges, such as brain trauma and Alzheimer’s disease. “PVMGO” (Philosophy-Vision-Mission-Goals-Objectives) is a fundamental personal and organizational concept presented in HRTM 097 and HRTM 133 courses in both verbal and visual formats (through PowerPoint slides, discussion, and a graphic diagram). “Translating” the verbal/visual information into a short “music video” would provide learners with an additional medium through which to acquire and retain this helpful concept.
