This porfolio describes the "Sedimentology and Stratigraphy in Google Earth," 7-part laboratory that can be utilized independently or together to understand the geologic techniques in Basin Analysis.  The link to download these labs can be found at:

These labs utilize recently collected sedimentological, magnetic, and geochemical data from the Qaidam Basin, China to answer questions regarding geologic and environmental changes in the Qaidam Basin over the last 5 million years. These labs are set up to build upon each other and systematically walk students through the techniques of Basin Analysis.  Labs include:   Lab 1: Depositional Environments, Lab 2: Outcrop Observations & Interpretations, Lab 3: Constructing a Stratigraphic Column, Lab 4: Magnetostratigraphy and Accumulation Rates, Lab 5: Lithologic Correlation, Lab 6: Isotope and Cyclo-Stratigraphy, Lab 7: Basin Analysis and Paleogeography (project synthesis).   These labs are intended to be taught in-sequence over 7-8 weeks of a semester, but each can be used independently if desired.
