I teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in organizational change and development. I think this could be a good exercise to exam the power of habit as suggested by the author and the difficulty of changing individual behavior. I think that I would want to formalize the process by developing a form to capture the specific behavioral changes that the student students committed to the first week and then have them report on these with a reflection at a class the second week. This could be like a journal exercise. Once this was completed then facilitate a discussion of individual level behavioral change issues and strategies for improving the effectiveness.

This is a very good exercise that I am planning to use in my Strategic Leadership course. It is a good example of why change can be hard even if it is something that the person chose to change. It also is a good way to show leaders why some people can be resistant to change.
