MATE Module 7: Power Systems, Tethers

This module from the Marine Advanced Technology Education Center introduces students to the concepts related to the development of effective tethers for ROV use. Students will learn to perform voltage drop calculations, compare the difference between a tether built from two large conductors versus one with multiple small conductors, develop and effective buoyancy system for the tether and describe the benefit to utilizing twisted pair conductors in electrical noise reduction. A PowerPoint presentation of the lecture material is available for download.
