This site, part of Exploring Earth Investigation by McDougal Littell and TERC, examines how igneous rocks form. The investigations "were designed to build students' knowledge of Earth Science concepts�and to raise student awareness of Earth as a system of interconnected components and processes." Here, visitors can find lessons on different types of igneous rocks, describing rock textures, identifying igneous rock textures, and igneous rock crystallization animations. Many sections have illustrative images and interactive features, which help students, understand the topics presented, and the final section ends with questions for students to explore igneous rocks further. This is an excellent site for any Earth Science classroom as an introductory lecture or as an out-of-class exploration for students.
