This series of videos, presented by the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, deals with the creation of nanosized structures called micelles. The experiment uses sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate as the surfactant. It combines this chemical with water to begin the creation of the structures. The videos are used as a step by step presentation of how to perform the experiment. This presentation, along with textual explanations, makes this lab easy to follow. This is an inexpensive and fun activity for any science classroom. It provides students with a look at how stock laboratory chemicals can form these nano-structures.
