Material Detail

This applet can be used to help students see the relationship between volume and surface area. It simulates cutting four squares of a size determined by the student from the corners of a surface. The cut surface is then folded to form a rectangular prism. The dimensions, surface area, and volume of the formed prisms are calculated by the computer. Students can select surface sizes ranging from an index card to a poster board to make their virtual prisms.
