MONOGRAPH - Recruitment & Retention of Engineering Technology Students
Identifying strategies to assist with recruitment and retention of engineering technology students particularly women and minorities was the focus of a 1998 Retention Forum, held in Columbia, SC, and sponsored by the South Carolina Advanced Technological Education (SC ATE) Center of Excellence. The Center is funded by the National Science Foundation and the South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education. Approximately 90 Retention Forum participants discussed results from research on enrollment and retention of engineering technology (ET) students in South Carolinas technical college system. The SC ATE Center of Excellence commissioned the research report, Determinants of Enrollment and Retention in South Carolina Engineering Technology Programs, by Dr. W. Douglas Evans. Forum participants also heard a report on what SC technical colleges are doing well to recruit and retain women and minorities in ET fields. During the forum, a panel of women and minority ET students from South Carolina technical colleges shared their perspectives and experiences.
