This learning activity familiarizes students with the concept of modeling as it is related to remote sensing and to the process of digitizing images. Students create a digitized image of a map that they have created, and through this activity understand the importance of ground verification of remotely-sensed images. The maps and models that are created in Odyssey of the Eyes: Beginner Level are needed for this activity. Both activities are part of the Land Cover/Biology chapter of the GLOBE Teacher's Guide. GLOBE (Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment) is a worldwide, hands-on, K-12 school-based science education program.
