Purpose of the course: To improve nursing education today, focus needs to be placed on developing clinical nursing faculty with teaching skills specifically in the areas of reflective practice and critical thinking. Novice faculty members also need an understanding of clinical situations as related to student learning. Prepared clinical nursing instructors have the opportunity to contribute meaningful learning opportunities to student nurses.
Goal: After completing the preparation course, novice clinical nursing faculty will be prepared to facilitate student learning through the use of newly learned teaching skills and strategies, feel a part of the teaching team, find fulfillment in the role as a clinical teacher, and safeguard the patients.
COST: There is no cost for the course. The course is intended for beginning clinical nursing faculty. However, it could be taken by any one that is seeking a nursing faculty position. Continuing education will be available in the future.
*I am still piloting the course and gaining feedback from participants, therefore, I must receive evaluative feedback.
The course is designed to be completed gradually with a mentor/coach.
I will serve as a coach for participants. However, two nurse faculty participants could take the course together with the more experienced faculty acting as the mentor/coach role for the beginning faculty.
