This class uses a single section from the Khan Academy Smarthistory, an online content provider that announces its goal is to be “relatable."  The section used in "Futurism and the Great War," a section which offers a clear, factual account of the Italian Futurists supported by thoughtfully selected sets of images, videos, and links to legitimate sources.  In this the section gives a glimipse into what an effective online textbook could be.

In general, the Smarthistory makes it easy to locate images and appropriate video clips from legitimate sources such as the MoMA and other museums. In lieu of source citations, evidence of peer review, a cohesive and comprehensive overview of content, and other standards of academic scholarship, however, it is difficult to recommend the vast majority of this work for use in a college or university classroom.
