Digital Citizenship - copy

This collection was specifically designed for high school students to learn about digital citizenship. Each resource was carefully examined and curated as they were meant to provide support in instruction. Each resource allows students to learn interactively through each other, multimedia options, and accessibility was a major priority as well. The resources provided were curated with EDI in mind for their accessibility, student support, UDL (Universal Design for Learning) principles, and availability to diverse learners who might learn better by reading an infographic or watching a video. The ability to give students real opportunities to learn in multiple ways allows them to engage in the content in a more meaningful, cognitive manner.

The reason I chose this resource is that it provides a streamlined PowerPoint presentation with many accessibility features. The PowerPoint provided is extremely informative and easily digestible for high school students. In the aspect of accessibility, the content provided has a plethora of alt text, readable text with a colorful font, and the slides seemed to be designed for screen readers. I believe this is a great starting resource when lecturing about digital citizenship.

This resource was chosen based on its large variety of resources that can be used in the classroom. There are multiple webinars, infographics, podcasts, topical training, tip sheets, toolkits, and more to spread the awareness and education for digital citizenship. Due to their multiple curated resources, a majority of these resources are heavy on visual support with large amounts of icons, pictures, and diagrams. The podcasts available are easy to listen to and very informative, and the infographics and videos provide easy-to-read captions and simplified navigation for an equitable learning experience.

I am most excited for this resource, as it is a school-friendly version of social media where students can apply their knowledge of media literacy and digital citizenship in real time. This platform is mostly a video/film media platform for sharing and incentivizing engagement between faculty, students, and parents. ELD is provided on this website/application through its learning module, as students can see and hear content that is provided, along with closed captions and visual support for vocabulary. There are transcripts available for students who may require a written portion of the videos provided.

The resource provided is a collection of learning modules, activities, and lesson plans geared towards digital citizenship and media literacy. The activities provided are interactive and require a lot of collaboration between students. The modules are simplified, and the articles created use large text and have a step-by-step instruction feel. Built-in features with this resource are screen-reader compatible, downloadable PDFs and slides, adjustable texts, and captioned videos.

This resource is an entire free online course dedicated to safety and responsibility on the Internet. With 9 modules, 15 assignments, 3 discussions, 2 quizzes, 60 reading documents, and 156 other miscellaneous files, this resource is a deep dive into digital citizenship. ELD is presented with its videos, reading, infographics, and interactive activities given throughout the course. The lessons are chunked and paced for self-paced learning towards lowering burnout. Quizzes and discussions are entirely student-led with the ability to adjust text as needed.
