Emergency Severity Index (ESI)

This open educational resource toolkit is an interactive, technology enhanced learning module focused on the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) and the recognition of time-sensitive clinical conditions in the emergency department. Designed around an escape room style activity, this toolkit engages learners through scenario-based decision making, embedded clinical cues, and immediate feedback. This resource is intended for emergency department nurses, nursing students, and healthcare learners seeking to strengthen triage reasoning, prioritization, and clinical judgment in a low risk, self paced environment. It may be used as a standalone online learning, a classroom activity, or as a supplement to simulation based education.
