Welcome to MERLOT-Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$)'s INNOVATION Project with Learnvia, new introduction to calculus courseware developed by  Carnegie Mellon University. 

The MERLOT-Affordable Learning Solutions initiative invites you to support ALL calculus students with innovative and FREE courseware that empowers faculty and learners alike.

What makes Learnvia a better option?

• Learnvia isdesigned from the ground up by a nonprofit team of math and engineering faculty, researchers, and technologists.

The wisdom of teaching experience blended with research on learning efficacy guided the design.

• Learnvia integrates every core instructional element—lessons, homework, quizzes, just-in-time support, and instant feedback—into short, scaffolded activities within a single, intuitive system. 

Students have a "home" for all their learning that is designed to empower their learning to learn calculus.

• Built-in AI gives students real-time guidance and personalized feedback.

Students learn what they need when they need it, all relevant for their stage in learning.

• Learnvia helps instructors see where learners are struggling and reduces time spent on grading.

Rooted in learning science, Learnvia was built to improve math outcomes—starting with Calculus I, and scaling to support the full gateway portfolio. 

Rather than focusing on abstract goals, we show students how calculus connects to careers they never considered, empowers real people in real scenarios, and builds confidence through interactive explorations.

Pilot Learnvia for the Spring 2026 term and receive a $3,000 stipend. Learnvia will offer you support to evaluate the impact of the courseware on your students’ learning and join a community of faculty that plans research projects, presentations, and publications.
