Accomplishments and Knowledge

Acomplishments

1. Opening my zoom camera.

I always feel awkward and hyperaware with a camera focused on me. It's not just on zoom but also for any video call with anybody. I get comfortable over time, but I was worried that I would shy away from it once again.

2. Getting 75 hours and 40 materials.

I am still in the process of fulfilling the requirements as of now, but the process has been enjoyable. The worry has been balancing the work with babysitting by siblings, but I'm managing.

Follow up: I completed 40 materials and have 41 now. I also have 80 hours as of last Friday(7-19). I do plan on adding more in the future as I see how beneficial MERLOT is for everyone. By doing this, I can analyze a source for myself and others.

3. Knowledge

I have gained knowledge on phages, but also how to research, present, communicate better, and just grow as a person. I have also learned some lessons that will be helpful for me in the future like making a time sheet on paper and not in your brain. I also need to find a way to organize tasks, events, and dates as I don't have one as of now.

Personal

1. Confidance

As a person who strives for perfection and is stubbornly persistant. I still feel nervous and unsure of my choices and through my presentations, but I have come to trust my choices more and to be more confident in myself.

2. Analytical and quantitative skills

The reserch based internship allowed for various opportunities to find and analyze a vast range of material types. The simplification of a journal article, video, or image allowed me to extract the main points. The first few were difficult, but became easier over time.

3. Communication

Talking on zoom did not faze me nor did sending emails. The issue came when I opened my email day after day without a response. I understand the various tasks and the higher priority projects and meetings my hosts were most likely attending, but I never experienced a similar thing in school. At most, I would just need to speak to them in person the next day I had class. For my case, I just re-emailed and got a reply soon after. It was just a new experience and showed me the difficulties of virtual communication, and the benefit of reminders.

4. Problem solving skills

Having classes only one or two times a week poses a few issues as not many questions can be answered. Emails can come in handy but a bit excessive if the issue is minimal. Finding ways to answer my questions such as th internet and learning how to solve them myself became easier and a skill I became equipment with.
