Practice

PRACTICE : Write a summary of a movie.

Guidelines:

1. As a class, decide on a movie to summarize. Choose one that everyone in the class has seen, such as Titanic. Discuss the main ideas (events) of this movie with a partner or in a small group.

2. After you have discussed the ideas orally, write a brief summary of the movie on a separate piece of paper. Write the summary in 10 minutes or less. Be prepared to share your summary.

3. Ensure your summary is between 150-250 words.

4. Post your summary for your peers comments.

5. Read your peers' comments and post your comments to the others. Don't grade, but you can use the rubric for grading summaries to help you.

6. Ask ChatGPT to provide feedback on your movie summary.

7. Pay attention to the feedback provided, noting specific strengths and areas for improvement mentioned by ChatGPT.

8. Prompt ChatGPT to write a summary of the same movie.

9. Compare ChatGPT’s summary with your own, noting similarities and differences in content, style, and comprehensiveness.

10. Compare the feedback you received from ChatGPT with the feedback your peers received.

11. Write a reflection on your findings. Address the following points:

  • How did your summary compare to ChatGPT’s in terms of content and quality?
  • How useful was ChatGPT’s feedback in improving your summary writing skills?
  • What insights did you gain from evaluating and critiquing both summaries?
  • How did your peers’ summaries and feedback compare to your own and ChatGPT’s?
