Institutional Partnerships Supporting Individual Excellence

Capacity building blends development of individual's expertise and organizational development of planning and operations of the institution within which the individuals work.   The KHCC MENA OERT initiative will work to mature the capabilities of cancer centers in the MENA region.

Step1: Institutional Readiness Assessment

Prospective MENA Cancer Centers will provide a profile of their institution's current capabilities to deliver cancer education, diagnosis, and treatment for their communities.   The current level of capabilities is less important than the institution's readiness to improve.

The profile will include:

  • Institutional demographics of staffing, populations served, etc.
  • Institutional facilities and operations
  • Institutional management processes, organizational structure, and budgets
  • Institutional leadership commitments to a strategic plan that the KHCC MENA OERT initiative will become a pillar in the implementation

Step 3. Funding and Resource Allocation

In collaboration with the KHCC MENA OERT Leadership Council, the MENA Cancer Center will develop a funding proposal for funding agencies that have pre-approved the class of proposed programs.   The funding proposal  will include the in-kind commitments of the MENA Cancer Center and the KHCC MENA OERT programs.

Step 5:  Impact Assessment

The MENA Cancer Centers and the Project Management teams will implement a program evaluation process to assess the impact of the implementation.  Quantitative and qualitative metrics will be included in the Impact Assessment.

Step 2: Institutional Development Plan

Based on the Institutional Readiness Assesments, the KHCC MENA OERT Leadership Council will select two MENA cancer centers for the first round of the program.

The selected MENA cancer Center and members of the Leadership Council will develop a 2-3 year plan for the

  • professional development of individuals
  • support of education, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers
  • improvements in medical and business procedures that result in high quality, more reliable, and faster treatment programs for populations served.
  • identification and collection of metrics that reflect the performance of the MENA cancer center on a variety of dimensions.

Step 4:  Implementation

With plans and funding in place, the implementation of the capacity building plan will be launched.   The KHCC MENA OERT Leadership Council will appoint a project management team that will ensure the implementation of the project and adjust the project plans as needed to deliver the optimal outcomes.  There will be quarterly project management reports to the KHCC MENA OERT Leadership Council.

Step 6:  Planning Next Step in Building Capabilities

One outcome of the Impact Assessment will be the identification of the next strategic priorities for improving the MENA Cancer Center's capabilities.  The final report of the 2-3 year project will include the MENA Cancer Center's plan of the next stage in building its capabilities to serve the cancer-related needs of their communities.
