Selecting Quality OERs
Educators should ensure that OERs meet the following criteria before the implement them in their classrooms.
- Content should be accurate.
- OER should be peer reviewed, have credible references and also relevant to the learning objectives.
- Publishers must have authority. (Platform must be reliable).
- Content must be reliable.
- Content must have flexible licensing requirement (such as Creative Commons).
- Content must be accurate (up to date and aligned with course objectives).
- Professionalism – quality presentation of content as well as no broken links.
- Interactivity – resources should promote learning engagement and motivation of students.
- Adaptable: OERs should be easy to adapt to the teaching/learning context.
- Culturally relevant.
