Selecting Quality OERs

Educators should ensure that OERs meet the following criteria before the implement them in their classrooms.

 

  • Content should be accurate. 
  • OER should be peer reviewed, have credible references and also relevant to the learning objectives.
  • Publishers must have authority. (Platform must be reliable).
  • Content must be reliable.
  • Content must have flexible licensing requirement (such as Creative Commons).
  • Content must be accurate (up to date and aligned with course objectives).
  • Professionalism – quality presentation of content as well as no broken links.
  • Interactivity – resources should promote learning engagement and motivation of students. 
  • Adaptable: OERs should be easy to adapt to the teaching/learning context. 
  • Culturally relevant.
