Great tit
The great tit is the largest kind of tit, but it’s still a rather small bird. They eat all sorts of insects, berries, nuts and seeds.
It can be hard to tell the different types of tit apart. The great tit is the largest one (that’s why he’s called ‘great’). Great tits have a black head, white cheeks, and a yellow belly with a black stripe running down. Their wings have a small whitish band across them. They have a small but sturdy beak.
Size: 14 cm
Sound: the great tit usually repeats two notes. It makes him sound a bit like he’s saying ‘teacher, teacher, teacher’!
In Eastern Europe, great tits sometimes hunt and eat small hibernating bats.
