Topic 3: The UDL Matrix and its Application

The UDL Rubric is a graphic organizer of the UDL Guidelines.  It was developed by CAST to provide concrete support for educators and others who wished to apply the UDL framework.  The UDL Rubric is not a scoring guide but is a set of concrete suggestions that can be applied to instructional design to reduce barriers and maximize learning opportunities according to specific learning goals. According to CAST, there is no set order in which to use the Guidelines and one would not use every Guideline in a single learning opportunity. Educators are encouraged to “strategically mix and match Guidelines and Checkpoints that reduce barriers and support all learners in reaching the learning goal” (CAST,2018).
